Fireworks Safety and Rules

The Lebanon Fire Department would like to take this opportunity in advance of the July 4th holiday to remind all residents and visitors that consumer fireworks are not permitted to be used within the City of Lebanon per City of Lebanon Code, Section 72-13(A):

The display, sale, and discharge of 1.4G fireworks is prohibited within the City of Lebanon, New Hampshire. The display and discharge of 1.3G fireworks shall meet the requirements of all federal, state, and local laws, ordinances and administrative rules.

Those fireworks classified as 1.4G, Class C Fireworks, or consumer fireworks, are smaller fireworks that can be found for purchase at a local fireworks store found within the State of New Hampshire. They typically do not require any training or permit to purchase or use. Some examples of these devices are Jumping Jacks, Roman Candles, and Artillery Shells.

Any novelty firework that is unregulated by the State of New Hampshire Fire Marshal’s Office is allowed for use within the City of Lebanon. Some examples of these devices are sparklers, party poppers, snappers, or snakes.

The Lebanon Fire Department urges anyone utilizing sparklers or other novelty items to use good judgment, be extremely careful, and have a fire extinguisher, hose, or bucket of water nearby during use.

If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact the Lebanon Fire Department at 603-448-8810.

Lebanon Solid Waste News

New Solid Waste Fees Proposed

The Lebanon City Council began reviewing proposed amendments to the City Code relative to Solid Waste Disposal at a special meeting on June 26, 2019. Discussions will continue at the July 10, 2019 City Council meeting and a public hearing will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019. At the close of the public hearing, should the Council act on the amendments as presented, the new regulations and fees will be effective Thursday, July 25, 2019.

Currently, residential municipal solid waste is charged on a per-pound basis ($1.00 or 1 punch per 30 pounds of waste disposed). The proposed charge is a “per bag” system, still utilizing the average weight of 30 pounds for a household bag of waste. Punch cards will increase from $10.00 per card to $15.00 per card and the fee to dispose of 1 regular-sized household bag will be 1 punch (3 punches for a contractor-sized bag). Fees for disposal of other types of waste will also be increased/implemented. Please see the Proposed Fee Schedule (link below) for more information.
